Pipeline Bouncer — Setup Guide
Getting Started
Pipeline Bouncer enforces required deal fields across your HubSpot pipelines. Once installed, deals that are advanced without the required information are automatically reverted and the rep is notified via a deal timeline note.
Installation
Step 1 — Install the App
Click "Install app" on the Pipeline Bouncer HubSpot Marketplace listing and complete the OAuth flow. You will be redirected back to HubSpot upon successful installation.
Step 2 — Open Pipeline Bouncer Settings
Navigate to your HubSpot account and open the Pipeline Bouncer app page. You can find it by clicking the main navigation menu and selecting Apps, or by going to Settings > Integrations > Connected Apps and clicking Pipeline Bouncer.
Step 3 — Configure Required Fields
On the Settings page, use the Pipeline dropdown to select the pipeline you want to configure. Each stage in the pipeline (except the first) will appear as a tab. Click a stage tab and use the toggles to mark which deal properties must be filled in before a deal can advance to that stage. Use the search bar to quickly find specific properties. Click Save Configuration when done.
Repeat this process for each pipeline you want to enforce rules on. You can configure different required fields for each stage of each pipeline independently.
Step 4 — Add the CRM Card to Deal Records
To set up the Pipeline Bouncer sidebar card on deal records:
- Go to Settings > Objects > Deals > Record Customization in your HubSpot account
- Find Pipeline Bouncer in the left panel under available cards
- Drag it onto the deal record layout in the right sidebar position
- Click Save
The card will now appear on all deal records, showing reps which fields are required for the next stage and their current completion status.
Step 5 — Test Enforcement
To verify enforcement is working:
- Open any deal record and move it to a stage that has required fields configured, leaving those fields empty
- Within 1-2 seconds the deal will be automatically reverted to its previous stage
- A note will appear on the deal timeline listing the missing fields
How the CRM Card Works
The Pipeline Bouncer card appears on every deal record sidebar. It shows:
- The current stage and next stage with a visual indicator
- A table of all required fields for the next stage with Missing or Complete status tags
- A "Fill missing fields" button that opens a panel where reps can complete required fields directly without leaving the deal record
The card automatically refreshes when deal properties or the deal stage changes, so reps always see up-to-date information.
Good to Know
Enforcement is reactive, not preventative
Deals will briefly appear in the new stage before being reverted — usually within 1-2 seconds. This is a HubSpot platform limitation and does not affect data integrity.
The first stage is never enforced
Rules apply to all stages except the first. The first stage does not support required field rules.
Enforcement covers all change sources
Enforcement applies to stage changes made via the HubSpot UI, workflows, and API calls. Changes made by Pipeline Bouncer itself are excluded to prevent enforcement loops.
Troubleshooting
Card not appearing on deal records
Make sure you have added the card to your deal record layout in Settings > Objects > Deals > Record Customization.
Enforcement not triggering
Verify that you have saved your pipeline configuration on the Settings page and that the deal is in a pipeline with rules configured. Check that the deal is not being moved to the first stage, as first stage enforcement is not supported.
Settings not saving
Ensure Pipeline Bouncer is properly installed and authorized. Try disconnecting and reinstalling the app if the issue persists.
